For rooming-house operators

Start with the premises.
Keep the checks in view.

Plan property-specific checks, maintenance and follow-up around the requirements of your registered rooming house.

Co-Living Next Gen property exterior

01 / Your working day, understood

The right brief begins with the right property context.

01

One housing label is not enough.

Confirm the premises type and relevant records. A co-living home, share house and registered rooming house are not automatically the same.

02

Due checks need planning.

Bring previous check dates and available reports so the work can be scoped against the actual requirements.

03

Findings need follow-through.

Keep an inspection finding, a repair quotation and a completed rectification distinct. Agree who owns the next action.

02 / A scope built around the property

Start with the work
you need to organise.

Share your locations, priorities and current process. We will discuss the fit and what needs to be agreed before work begins.

A few useful answers

Let’s clear
a few things up.

Something more specific?
Talk to the team

How often are rooming-house gas and electrical checks required?

Consumer Affairs Victoria states that rooming-house gas checks are required every two years and electrical checks at least every two years. The work and records must meet the requirements applying to the premises.

Does a trade visit certify the whole property?

No. Each check or repair has a defined scope. Do not treat a service visit as whole-property certification or proof that every obligation has been satisfied.

Can the same plan be used for a SIL home?

Not without checking its actual property and operating arrangements. Supported Independent Living describes support, not a rooming-house classification.

Guidance checked 6 September 2026. Consumer Affairs Victoria: rooming-house safety obligations . Site-specific technical review remains necessary.
